For anyone who sweats for a living or a hobby

You didn't stop wearing sunscreen. You just stopped putting it near your eyes.

Halfway through the session it starts running. You squint, you wipe with your forearm, and from then on you keep it off your forehead and away from your eyes. Game Face Sport is a no-sting zinc formula, made for the part of the session where other sunscreens quit.

Session splitsAny hot day, any sport

Sunscreen on. Hat on. Out the door feeling organised.

First proper sweat. Everything starts moving.

It's in your eyes. You stop and wipe your whole forehead with your arm.

Forehead, temples and eye area: now bare.

Reapply time. You do the arms. You skip the face.

Love the game. Not the sting.

Everyone who trains outside has the same move.

The forearm wipe. One drag across the forehead and eyes, because the alternative is finishing the session half blind. Nobody decides to stop protecting their face. It just happens, once, around the 40 minute mark, and then it becomes the routine.

So the next time you put sunscreen on, you go a bit lighter up top. Then you skip the forehead. Then it's just arms, legs and the back of the neck, and your face, the part that's pointed at the sun all session, gets nothing.

  • The visor theoryA cap or visor helps, but it does nothing for the sides of the face, the ears or the reflected UV coming off water, concrete and grass.
  • The headband fixIt buys you twenty minutes. Then it's soaked, and it's holding the sunscreen against your eyes instead of away from them.
  • The squint and push onYou finish the session with streaming eyes, then swear off putting it on your face next time.
  • Just don't reapplyThe most common one. You applied at 7am, you're out until 11, and you tell yourself the first coat is still doing its job.

It fails at a different moment for everyone.

Same problem, different clock. Pick what you do and see where it usually goes wrong.

Time in the sun 1 to 2 hrs

Where it goes wrong

Long runs are the worst case. You're generating heat for an hour or more with nothing covering your face, and the sweat runs straight down from your hairline into your eyes.

With Game Face Sport

What changes

You put it on your whole face, including the forehead, and leave it there. No-sting zinc, water resistant for 40 minutes, so reapplying mid-session stops being something you avoid.

The bit nobody explains

Sweat doesn't sting. Whatever you dissolved into it does.

Chemical UV filters are oils and solvents, dissolved right through the sunscreen so they can soak into the top layers of your skin. Sweat is the delivery service. When it runs, they run with it, and the eye is the softest tissue they can land on.

Zinc oxide works differently. It's a mineral that sits on the surface and reflects UV rather than dissolving into your skin, so there's far less in the formula that wants to travel. That's what the no-sting formula is built on, and it's why Sport can go where you've stopped putting sunscreen.

The test is simple: would you put it on your forehead before a long run?

If the answer has been no for years, that's the real gap in your sun protection. Not the SPF number on the tube.

The patch you've been avoiding is the worst one to leave bare.

Researchers photographed people applying sunscreen with a UV camera. The area around the eyes was missed roughly twice as often as the rest of the face, and it's the same area where skin cancer is most concentrated. Stinging is the reason people give.

Most often left uncovered Where the sweat runs to

of the eyelid area was left uncovered when people applied sunscreen normally, against 7% for the rest of the face.

For parents of kids whose skin reacts to everything

They're not being difficult. The sunscreen actually hurts.

When a child has eczema or sensitive skin, sunscreen isn't a five second job. It stings the raw patches behind their knees, it burns their eyes, and by the third morning of it you're both dreading the tube. Game Face Sensitive is SPF50 with non-nano zinc as the only active ingredient, made for exactly that skin.

You

Sunscreen, then we're going.

Them

I don't want it. It stings.

You

It doesn't sting. Stand still.

Them

(crying) It's burning my arms.

You

Fine. Just the face then. Get in the car.

One less battle before school.

They were right, and you've been arguing with them anyway.

Here's the part that stings worse than the sunscreen. When a child's skin barrier is compromised, which is exactly what eczema is, things that sit harmlessly on intact skin can get through and cause irritation. So when they say it burns, they usually aren't negotiating. It genuinely does.

And because nobody wants that fight at 8am, five days a week, the real outcome isn't a better technique. It's less sunscreen.

  • The quick face-only compromiseArms, legs, ears and the back of the neck get skipped, because those are the patches that hurt most.
  • The thin coatYou go light so it doesn't sting, which is the one thing guaranteed to reduce the protection you're actually getting.
  • The no-reapply ruleYou got it on once. There is no chance of a second round at lunchtime, so the afternoon is unprotected.
  • The long sleeves insteadA reasonable fallback, but on a 34 degree day in a school playground it isn't going to happen.

Sun protection only works if it actually goes on.

Which makes comfort a protection issue, not a luxury. The best sunscreen for your kid is the one they'll let you put on them, every day, without a scene.

Same nine minutes. Two very different mornings.

Switch between them and see where your morning actually goes.

You get the tube out. They see it and back away from the bench.

Negotiation. Then bribery. Then the countdown from five.

It goes on the arms. It hits the raw patch behind the elbow and they're crying.

You give up on the legs and the ears. Everyone's upset and now you're late.

You leave with half a child covered, and you'll do it all again tomorrow.

Individual experiences vary. If your child's skin is broken, inflamed or infected, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using any new product on it.

The bit nobody explains at the chemist

Two sunscreens, two completely different jobs.

Chemical sunscreens work by being absorbed into the top layers of the skin, where the filters take the UV hit. That's the design. On skin with a healthy barrier most people never notice. On eczema-prone skin, where the barrier is already broken, there's much less standing between those ingredients and the nerve endings underneath.

Zinc oxide doesn't do that. It's a mineral that sits on the surface and reflects UV away, so there's far less going into the skin in the first place. The National Eczema Society notes that many people with eczema find mineral sunscreens less irritating than chemical ones, though it also makes the honest point that what suits one person won't suit another.

Game Face Sensitive uses non-nano zinc oxide at 25%, and that's the only active ingredient in it.

No chemical UV filters. No titanium dioxide. Nothing else doing the protecting.

Zinc does the protecting. The rest is there to settle things down.

Sensitive isn't just Sport with a softer name. It's built around organic ingredients chosen for calm, comfortable skin, so it can go on dry, reactive patches without a fight.

The protection

Non-nano zinc oxide 25%

The only active ingredient. Sits on the surface, reflects UVA and UVB, and doesn't sting eyes.

The soother

Organic calendula

A long-standing favourite for dry, irritated skin, and the reason this formula feels different from a standard sunscreen.

The calmer

Bisabolol

The gentle part of chamomile, included specifically for skin that reacts to everything.

The moisture

Hyaluronic acid, jojoba & sea buckthorn

Dry skin is itchy skin. These hydrate and nourish while the zinc does the sun protection.
